12 Years Since the Buni Yadi Massacre
On the night of 24 February 2014, the town of Buni Yadi in Yobe State witnessed one of the deadliest attacks on a school in Nigeria’s history. Militants from Boko Haram stormed the Federal Government College, targeting the boys’ boarding school while students slept.
The attackers set dormitories on fire and opened fire on students attempting to flee. Reports confirmed at least 59 students were killed. Beyond those confirmed dead, several students remain unaccounted for to this day, with no evidence confirming whether they survived or perished. Their disappearance remains one of the haunting aspects of this tragedy.

Remembering the Victims
As we mark 12 years since the massacre, we honor both the students who lost their lives and those who remain missing. Their absence is a reminder of the fragility of life in conflict zones and the enduring need to protect education and children from violence.
