A Mother’s Fight: Woman Cleared After Killing Boyfriend to Protect Daughter

A mother’s desperate act to protect her child ends in freedom.

A Brazilian mother has been found not guilty after admitting she killed her boyfriend, saying she did it to protect her young daughter from alleged abuse.

Erica Pereira da Silveria Vicente told authorities the incident happened in Minas Gerais after she discovered disturbing messages her partner, Everton Amaro de Silva, had allegedly sent to her 11-year-old daughter. Alarmed, she rushed home after hearing her child in distress and stepped in.

Prosecutors claimed the act was planned, arguing she had given him medication before attacking him. Investigators later linked the crime back to her home, where she also handed over the weapon used.

According to reports presented in court, she laced his drink with a sedative before attacking him. The situation escalated, and with the help of a teenager who reportedly heard screams, the body was later moved to a wasteland in Belo Horizonte.

Vicente admitted to the killing but maintained her actions were driven by a desperate need to protect her child.

After a short trial, the jury ruled in her favour, clearing her of all charges, including murder. The judge upheld the verdict, bringing the case to a close.

Having already spent about a year in custody awaiting trial, she has now been officially released.
