Boko Haram Attack Ngoshe: 9 Soldiers Killed, Imam Slain, Over 100 Abducted
A devastating night attack has left the people of Ngoshe town in fear and displacement after suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents stormed the community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to reports reaching BuzzVaultNG, the assault happened on the evening of March 4, 2026, shortly after residents had broken their Ramadan fast. Local outlet Yerwa Express News reported that heavily armed terrorists invaded the town and targeted a military formation stationed there.
Security sources cited by the outlet said the insurgents arrived with overwhelming firepower, overpowering soldiers during the attack. At least nine Nigerian soldiers were killed, while the town’s Chief Imam was brutally murdered during the raid.
The attackers reportedly spread across the entire Ngoshe community, abducting more than 100 women and children and leaving several residents injured.
A security source who spoke anonymously described the scale of the devastation, saying the town has been completely deserted.
“As I am speaking to you now, the entire people of Ngoshe have fled and nobody is left in the community. Most of us have taken refuge in Pulka,” the source said.
The source also alleged that the terrorists may have received assistance from within the community, claiming the attackers entered the town with insider support before carrying out the killings and mass abductions.
Residents further reported that the insurgents set large sections of the town on fire while retreating, forcing survivors to flee for safety.
As of the time this report was filed, authorities including the military operation Operation Hadin Kai had not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
The attack has once again raised concerns about security in parts of Borno State, where communities continue to face threats from insurgent groups despite ongoing military operations.
