Boko Haram Launches Deadly Night Attack on Nigerian Army in Konduga, Soldiers Killed

According to reports reaching BuzzVaultNG, suspected fighters from the extremist group Boko Haram launched a late-night attack on Nigerian troops in Konduga, leaving several soldiers dead after hours of intense fighting.

The attack reportedly began around 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2026, when heavily armed insurgents stormed a military position in Konduga, a community in northeastern Borno State that has experienced years of insurgent violence.

Sources say the gun battle between the attackers and troops of the Nigerian Army lasted throughout the night and continued into the early hours of Thursday, March 6.

During the confrontation, Lieutenant Colonel Si Iliayasu was reportedly killed alongside two other soldiers, believed to be a private soldier and a junior-ranking officer. Local sources described the situation as a prolonged and intense exchange of gunfire as troops attempted to defend their position against the attackers.

The latest incident comes only days after another brutal assault linked to the militant faction Islamic State West Africa Province. That attack reportedly took place in Ngoshe, where insurgents were said to have overrun security forces.

Initial reports suggested that five soldiers were captured and beheaded, while later information indicated that the total number of people who lost their lives could be more than 300, although official confirmation of the full casualty figure has yet to be released.

The back-to-back attacks have raised fresh concerns about security in parts of northeastern Nigeria, where insurgent groups continue to launch sudden raids on military positions and nearby communities.

Many Nigerians have continued to express concern for soldiers stationed on the front lines, urging citizens to support and pray for members of the Nigerian military who are working to protect communities affected by insurgent violence.

At the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Army has not yet released a full official statement regarding the latest attack in Konduga.
