Nigerian troops reportedly repelled two midnight attacks by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters in Kofa village near Maiduguri and in Damboa LGA, Borno State.

Nigerian security forces have successfully repelled two separate attacks carried out by suspected Boko Haram / ISWAP fighters in Borno State late Sunday night.

According to reports reaching BuzzVaultNG, the attacks occurred in Kofa village, located on the outskirts of Maiduguri, and in Damboa Local Government Area.

Sources say the terrorists attempted to launch coordinated assaults on both locations between 12:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m., but Nigerian troops quickly responded and pushed them back.

In the first incident, fighters believed to be members of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province attacked Kofa, a satellite community near Maiduguri. However, security forces were able to stop the attack after engaging the assailants.

Around the same time, another group of militants reportedly moved toward Damboa town, but troops also repelled that assault after a brief exchange of gunfire.

Authorities believe the militants may have split into two groups to carry out the attacks simultaneously in the different locations.

The development was confirmed by Kenneth Nahum, the police spokesperson in Borno State, who disclosed the information in separate updates on Monday.

He said calm has now returned to the affected communities after security forces regained control of the areas.

As of the time of filing this report, no casualties have been officially confirmed.

Security agencies are said to be monitoring the situation closely as residents gradually return to normal activities.

More details are expected to follow as authorities release further updates.
