“74-year-old Emeka arrested at Abuja Airport after 11kg of cocaine was found in his luggage.”

What was supposed to be a simple trip to London ended in handcuffs for a 74-year-old Nigerian man.

Ikwuakalom Nwakoro Emeka was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja after officers allegedly discovered 11 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside his luggage.

Emeka had reportedly told airport officials he was travelling to London, United Kingdom, for a vacation. He was about to board a British Airways flight to Heathrow on Saturday, March 14, 2026, when NDLEA operatives stopped him for a search.

During the inspection, officers found large blocks of cocaine cleverly hidden inside food items, including ground dry pepper.

The drugs were said to be wrapped in foil papers and balloons, apparently in an attempt to avoid detection during the airport screening.

What looked like an ordinary travel bag quickly turned into a major drug bust.
Authorities say the seized cocaine weighed about 11 kilograms, an amount believed to be linked to international drug trafficking operations.

The NDLEA has since taken Emeka into custody while investigations continue to determine whether he was acting alone or as part of a wider drug network moving illegal substances across borders.

For now, the planned London trip has been replaced with a far more serious journey  one that could lead straight to court.
