NYSC Assures Corps Members: “You’re Fully Covered”
If you’re serving or about to serve, here’s some reassuring news your safety and health are not left to chance.
The Director-General of National Youth Service Corps, Olakunle Nafiu, has confirmed that all corps members are protected by a full insurance package throughout their service year. This includes both life and medical coverage, starting right from the moment call-up letters are issued even before leaving home.
Speaking during a visit from Jibrin Ndace of Voice of Nigeria in Abuja, Nafiu shared real cases to show how impactful the scheme has been. In one situation, ₦28 million was used to save a pregnant corps member and her unborn child after a serious spinal injury. In another, ₦33 million funded prosthetic arms for a corps member involved in a road accident.
Beyond the numbers, the message is clear: corps members are not alone when things go wrong.
Nafiu also advised journalists and the public to always verify information directly with NYSC to avoid spreading false reports. He emphasized that postings are carefully planned with safety and national interest in mind, while the scheme itself remains neutral not influenced by politics or religion with a strong focus on unity.
The visit also highlighted growing collaboration, as VON reaffirmed its support in promoting corps members’ activities to a global audience.
As a corps member, you’re backed by more than just the uniform there’s a system in place looking out for you.
