Sources close to both men told TheCable that the breaches happened within the past week. Otedola’s phone was hacked once, while Dangote’s device was allegedly compromised twice in just two days, raising concerns about how targeted the attack might be.
For now, it’s still unclear if the two businessmen have fully regained control of their devices. However, insiders say the attackers have moved from intrusion to intimidation.
“The hackers are asking both men for money,” one source revealed, describing the situation as unsettling for those around them.
Despite the tension, this incident highlights just how vulnerable even the most powerful figures can be in the digital age. Dangote and Otedola, known for their warm friendship and habit of calling each other “brother,” were last seen publicly together during Dangote’s announcement to expand his refinery from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million bpd — a move Otedola celebrated deeply.
At the event, Otedola called Dangote “Africa’s pride,” praising his lifelong commitment to building industries that will outlive him.
“These are legacy investments that will shape generations,” he said, reminding Nigerians that the refinery will eventually be partly owned by citizens.
For now, both businessmen remain focused on resolving the breach while those close to them hope the situation ends without further escalation.
