Dangote Sends a Powerful Wake-Up Call to Nigeria’s Billionaires: “We Need Factories, Not More Private Jets

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has ignited a nationwide conversation after urging Nigeria’s wealthy elite to rethink their spending habits and focus more on building the nation.

In a now-viral interview, Dangote criticised the growing trend of billionaires splashing billions of naira on Rolls-Royces, luxury mansions, yachts, and private jets, while the country continues to battle unemployment and limited industrial growth.

According to him, Nigeria cannot move forward if its richest citizens invest more in prestige than in productive industries that create jobs and strengthen the economy.

Dangote shared a striking observation:

“Sometimes I visit Lagos airports and all you see are private jets parked everywhere. Those jets should be industries creating jobs.”

He stressed that with Nigeria’s rapidly rising population, the nation urgently needs more factories, more local production, and more long-term investments that can reduce poverty and empower communities.

For Dangote, the message is simple but powerful:
If Nigeria’s billionaires focus less on luxury and more on building industries, the country’s economic future will be far brighter.
