Troops Foil Attacks in Plateau, Arrest Fake Security Operatives and Repel Terrorists
Security forces under the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, have recorded fresh gains in Plateau State after successful operations in Jos North and Wase Local Government Areas.
Late on Thursday night, troops responding to reports of sporadic gunfire in Dutse Uku, Jos North, moved quickly to the scene. Around 11:45 pm, they intercepted two individuals dressed in black tactical uniforms who were allegedly posing as security operatives. The suspects were reportedly involved in setting houses on fire and fueling violence in the community. They were arrested and taken into custody.
During the incident, two residents sustained gunshot injuries. Soldiers immediately evacuated them to a medical facility, where they are said to be in stable condition. The arrest is seen as significant, as it suggests that some of the violence previously blamed on security personnel may have been carried out by criminals disguising themselves in military-style outfits.
The operation also extended to Karem in Wase Local Government Area. Troops on high alert disrupted a group of suspected terrorists moving on motorcycles. Following a brief engagement, the attackers fled, while three of them were neutralized.
The successes came shortly after the deployment of additional troops, including specialized counter-terrorism personnel, ordered earlier in the day. The reinforcement has strengthened security operations across volatile areas and improved response time.
Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to tackling criminal elements and restoring calm across the state. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
With continued cooperation from the public and ongoing security operations, authorities say efforts are underway to ensure lasting peace and stability in Plateau State.
